Thematic Elements

Every good story has a good theme to back it up, and this one is no exception. Being that Exalted is so epic in scope, there will no doubt be secondary themes that pop up in the course of game, and you're welcome to add those here, too. For now, we'll only concern ourselves with the primary theme.

The Old Age Gives Way to the New

The Second Age is coming to a close, and a Time of Tumult is upon Creation as it makes that unavoidable transition into the Third Age. We're all familiar with that part - it's been a part of the core setting since First Edition. But we've never had a chance to really explore what that means to the Exalted. I'm not going to say this is a "coming of age" story, but there's definitely a changing of the guard on the horizon. The winds of change are sweeping across all Creation, from the heart of the Realm to the furthest reaches of the Threshold, even in Heaven itself. The elders who have held the younger ones back are nearing the end of the road, and the time will soon come when the next generation will step up and revolutionize Creation.

The question is, what will this new age look like? Will it be the dreaded Age of Shadows that the Bronze Faction Sidereals prophesied? Or is it the Age of Illumination that the Gold Faction Sidereals work feverishly to bring into existence? Maybe it's neither. Maybe it's both. The shape of the Third Age is yours to forge.
